In this piece I present an instrumental rearrangement of We Don’t Talk About Bruno from the film Encanto, moving its many vocal roles onto the instruments of a Crossover Ensemble while fully preserving the song’s original harmony and structure.
The idea is to turn the sung dialogue between the characters into a clear instrumental dialogue, so each instrument keeps its expressive role as if it were an independent “voice” within the musical texture.
The song was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and it is a rich example of polyphonic texture and interlocking rhythmic layers — which makes it ideal material for an instrumental arrangement.
What Makes This Arrangement Special
Each sung character becomes a clear instrumental line
The original polyphonic interplay is preserved
Roles are distributed across the ensemble, balancing melody and bass
The song’s drama is brought out through instrumental color
This work is for:
- Ensemble musicians
- Arranging and orchestration students
- Music teachers
- Anyone interested in turning vocal works into instrumental pieces
